Happy Holidays
Good morning! Sorry I’ve been so quiet on the blog lately. I’ve been traveling a bit more than usual of late, for family reasons. All is well, or will be soon, but family first, right? TSA is very particular about flying with craft supplies. I guess they’ve also got burned or sliced by our tools. Ha!
We’ve got a new challenge starting today at A Blog Named Hero. It’s all about winter and for me that was icy blues and sparkles.Â
This card was very easy to make because I started with gorgeous Hero Arts products. That Hand Drawn Snowflake Background Stamp is just perfection. Do you have it? Go buy it, I’ll wait. 😉

This started by blending two colors of Distress Oxide inks onto a piece of watercolor paper. Once that was completely dry I embossed the background stamp onto it with Satin Pearl embossing powder. Gosh, that effect is just so pretty. Here’s a close up.

I used one of the Oxide inks to stamp the sentiment onto a scrap of the same watercolor paper. I used clear embossing powder over that for the same shiny finish as the background. Mounted the piece onto a navy card base and then used Nuvo Clear Drops for some added embellishments.
This came together in no time, and I’m a bit in love with it. I really do love that background. I wish I could use it for things other than snowflakes. Ha!
I hope you’ll join us over at the challenge, there are two prizes up for grabs. Hero Arts has a new catalog coming out soon, so a gift certificate would come in handy!

Happy 3rd Birthday Concord & 9th
Good morning! Today is the 9th of the month which means we have a new release to drool over at Concord & 9th. And even better than that, it’s the day we celebrate three years of Concord & 9th awesomeness! Happy Birthday Dear Concord & 9th. I am so thankful that you have entered this craft industry with your innovative and creative products.
To help celebrate this special day the design team from Where Creativity Meets C9 is helping Concord & 9th highlight their new sets this month. Each Friday we will be posting to show you the new goodies.
First up is the Birthday Dies and Birthday Balloon stamp set. These are both part of the earned rewards program that Concord & 9th offers when you shop from their store. Customers that spend $60 or more in the shop will earn Birthday dies free. Customers that spend $120 or more in the shop will earn Birthday dies plus Birthday Balloons stamp set free.
It’s a fun stamp set featuring this giant balloon and a couple of small images. I used the star and confetti images to create a background using distress oxide inks. I wanted this to be bright and cheerful and applicable to anyone celebrating a birthday. I often find that I make very specific birthday cards, and I wanted one in my stash that I could use for anyone.
After I stamped the background I die cut it and popped it up with fun foam onto a colored cardstock background. Fun Fact, the Gina K. Plum Punch cardstock perfectly matches Distress Oxide Seedless Preserves. 🙂
I stamped the balloon and tie images onto cardstock with a mixture of Twisted Citron and Peeled Paint oxide inks. I knew I wasn’t going to get a perfect image, so I thought I could help that by mixing the colors. This way it sort of looks like a balloon when you hold it up to the light, how it’s more opaque in some places than others. I heat embossed this with clear embossing powder to give it a bit of shine. I trimmed this by hand and adhered it with foam adhesive to the card front. I tied a bit of twine around the balloon tie first, just to make it easier for myself.
I used the Birthday Dies with the Summer Glitter cardstock for the sentiment. That blue works well with the Salty Ocean oxide ink on the background. I adhered the “happy” onto the balloon and the “birthday” I put on a piece of black cardstock, to help it stand out a bit on the card.
Here’s a closer look at the shine on the balloon, and the sparkly glitter. I love the quality of Concord & 9th’s glitter paper. Make sure to get some next time you’re shopping and you need some help getting to free shipping. I know I’m not the only one that shops that way. 😉
Our challenge this month at Where Creativity Meets C9 is one that I know you’re going to love. Anything Goes! As long as you use product(s) from Concord & 9th, you can enter. Make sure you read the Challenge Rules to qualify.
Thank you so much for stopping by today, I’ll be back soon with more paper crafting!

Triple-Step Thank You – Concord & 9th Feature Friday
Good morning to you! Thank you so much for stopping by today. I am joining Concord & 9th for their Feature Friday and we’re all using the Triple-Step Thank You stamp set. And it is awesome! I’ve paired the stamp set with the new Dip-Dyed Cards & Envelopes and I’m somewhat in love with what I’ve made.
I am a fan of one layer cards, not that these all qualify for that, mind you. I am also a fan of making multiples of a card. It really doesn’t take all that much more time, and you end up with more cards! I am not a fan of boredom, however, which is why these are all different colors and have a different sub sentiment. (Is that a term? I might have just made that up, let’s go with it!)
This first card was made with Distress Oxide Fossilized Amber ink, which truly is a magnificent color. I simply adore it, and I’m not even a fan of yellows, ha. However, look at this gorgeous specimen! It worked perfectly with this card from the Dip-Dyed set, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
For all of these cards I stamped the first image, which for me was the “T, o and k” image. I stamped this three times to get excellent coverage, then used clear embossing powder to emboss those letters. Next I stamped the “h n” image, again three times, then clear embossed. Finally I stamped the “y a u” image and clear embossed. That just seemed to work out best for me, but I advise you to play with these stamps to see what works for you. There is no wrong or right in stamping, only happy accidents!
I stamped a few of the sentiments from the stamp set onto black card stock with versamark ink and white heat embossed. Once those were trimmed out I just mixed and matched until I liked the way they fit, visually, and popped those up on foam adhesive.
This example features Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide ink, which is just the perfect shade of teal. I did the same steps here, and as you can see I switched up the sub sentiment.
Oh, Abandoned Coral, you make me swoon. Thank you for matching this Dip-Dyed card perfectly. I chose to use the sentiment that had the word “heart” in it just because of the color scheme here, and thought it worked well on the bottom of the card.
I did not having a matching Distress Oxide ink for this, but absolutely love navy and gold, so I used versamark ink and gold embossing powder. I thought this was simply elegant as it was, and did not use a sub sentiment on it. I can always add one later if I need to, and sometimes I like leaving my options open.
I hope you enjoyed these cards and get inspired to make your own one layer card set. I’m thinking I might give these to my sister as a little gift, knowing that she can always use thank you cards.
Have a great weekend!

So Much Love – Concord & 9th Feature Friday
Hello! Today I’m excited to share two cards with you to highlight the new release from Concord & 9th. I’m joining their Feature Friday series with the Stripes & Sayings stamp set. This is a super fun set with possibilities limited only by your imagination, and I happen to love the font on the sentiments, too.
I’m going to talk a little bit about the evolution of these cards, as it helped me to learn a bit about the inks and the stamp, and changed the way I made the second card.
I started off by choosing six Distress Oxide inks, in rainbow colors, naturally. I had planned to stamp three stripes from the main stamp image in three colors in one direction, then go on to three colors in the next direction. However, oxide inks are more opaque than dye inks, and I realized that that wouldn’t work very well. Or, it might work, and just make a hot mess.
So, on this first card, I stamped three stripes in red, then orange, then yellow, then turned the card 90 degrees, and did the same stamping in the same order, rather than go on to the green blue and violet. I think this is a neat look, and like the way it turned out.
To finish this card, I stamped the sentiment on a banner that I cut from the Laurel Frames die set. I die cut the “love” from Hearts & Love three times from white cardstock, and one time from a piece of white cardstock that I had colored with Candied Apple oxide ink. Once I adhered those on top of each other I used versamark and clear embossing powder on the die cut to give it this glossy look.
For this version of the card I switched to Hero Arts inks. I chose three of the four blues that come in a set of ink cubes, figuring Hero Arts had already done the work for me. And also because I need to swatch my Hero Arts inks and haven’t done that yet. 😉
I did the same technique for the first set of stripes. Three in each color, darkest to lightest. When I turned the card 90 degrees I decided to only use the lightest ink in this direction. This is because my stamp was stained from the darker inks, and I suspected that if I used the lightest ink, since it’s the same formulation, it would remove part of that remaining ink and sort of blend it into the stamped image. I was right. You can see that on the horizontal on this blue card, I only used the Soft Pool ink, but towards the bottom of the card, the stripes are darker because it picked up some of the dark ink that was already on the stamp. I learned this from a stamping incident a while back, but somehow I kept this in my head and was able to use it to my advantage this time.
Here’s a closer look at the inked and clear embossed sentiment here. I used the Soft Pool ink on white cardstock for the top layer of this, and it’s such a pretty look with all that shine. I absolutely love this line of dies from Concord & 9th and want them for all words. Well, all words that I would use as a sentiment.
Here they are together, I love the fun graphic style of these, and want to make more in all of the colors.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you’ve been inspired to get inky. As I type this I still have some blue ink on my fingers; many hand washes and two showers later. Eep!

Thinking of You
Good morning! It’s the 15th of the month, which means we are starting our new challenge at A Blog Named Hero today. It’s a fun one, to get us in the mood for spring.
Use a flower from Hero Arts, and you’re practically qualified to enter the challenge! 🙂 We have our challenge rules listed here, please do make sure to read them so that you’re eligible to win one of the two monthly prizes.
I made a simple, yet elegant card using one stamp and one ink color. Excluding the sentiment strip.
For this card I used the Magnolia stamp and Distress Oxide ink in Seedless Preserves. I stamped that focal image on the card front directly, and then for the other images I stamped off the ink twice before stamping it onto the card front. Who knew that Distress Oxides stamp practically perfectly the second time around? Ha!Â
While the ink was drying I grabbed a favorite sentiment set from Hero Arts and used the “thinking of you” stamp to emboss on a darker piece of cardstock. I use a piece of scrap paper that has had this die cut from it in order to make sure my sentiment will fit. I can just arrange this over stamps while they are still in the packaging in order to help me choose which sentiment to use. Once that was stamped and embossed, I also use this scrap to help me align the die properly. I place it like you see below in the picture and then I tape the die over it before running it through my die cutting machine. Helps me save paper and re-stamping, ahem.
I sure do hope you’ll join us in this month’s challenge. I have a feeling it’s going to be a very popular one!
