Happily Ever After

It’s time for our first challenge at Where Creativity Meets C9, and this month it’s all about Celebrations. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, as I had a friend get married recently, and she posted a picture of her wedding cake. Let me show it to you.

Seriously. Her cake was white with a satin ribbon trim and beautiful purple flowers. It was like this stamp set was made for this specific reason. Even her flowers draped over the cake the same way. I was so excited to use it to make a card for her and her groom.

I stamped the image with Hero Arts Intense Black ink onto Bristol smooth paper. I used a stamp positioning tool to do this, since I knew it was likely I’d have to stamp the image more than once. I used the coordinating Happy Day dies to cut the image out and then colored with Zig Clean Color markers. Just one color of purple for the flowers and the banner, and then two shades of green for the foliage.

I wanted to have a simple background, but elegant, so I used two images from the same Happy Days stamp set, the sparkler and the heart, and created my own background. I stamped with Versamark and used Hero Arts White Satin Pearl embossing powder. It’s so lovely on light colored cardstock. A must have, in my opinion.

Since my friend’s cake had some satin ribbons around the layers I thought I would simulate those using the Winsor & Newton Iridescent Medium. Not sure how different this ended up being vs. a Wink of Stella pen, but I like how it turned out. And I got to use a “new to me” supply.

I used lots of foam tape to adhere the cake to the piece of acetate, and then again to adhere the acetate to the card base. More foam tape for the sentiment banner. And last but not least, I used a Pearl pen to make some pearls. I love this thing, it’s so much fun. And a tip for you… if you mess up a pearl that’s on the acetate, say, by dropping something on to the wet card… you can use some rubbing alcohol to clean it off, and start over. Ask me how I know.
