Stuck On You

I wanted to show you a fun card I made with a new stamp set from Concord & 9th. It’s called Stuck on You and features all sorts of succulents and cactus. Are those the same things? I should know, I do live in the desert. Hmmm… Okay, a quick google search found this interesting article. Take a look. Quick answer, they are not to be used interchangeably. 😉

I really didn’t have a plan when I was making this, but I did have some December stress that I needed to color away. So I stamped a few of the images onto Bristol smooth paper, and got out some watercolor markers and paints to color. Once I colored them, I worked on designing the card.

I used Distress Oxide ink for the sentiment, so that I could clear emboss over it. I absolutely love the Oxide inks for this, which you have heard me say many times before. They work perfectly for this, and then it feels like you have so many colors of embossing powder when you just used clear! I used Picked Raspberry because I wanted it to somewhat match the color of my cactus flower.

Do you know about cactus flowers? I don’t, except that we had them in our yard. At night, the blooms open, and if you catch them at just the right time, you get to see their magnificence. I highly recommend having a dog that needs to go outside, so that you can check the blooms multiple times a night.

You can’t tell from the picture, but the Saguaro cactus, the one on the left, that’s very dimensional. I die cut the cactus from additional layers of kraft cardstock and adhered them all together. This ended up being perfect, as at the end the Saguaro is hanging over the edge of the card, and from the inside, it’s kraft colored, so, score one for me for unintentionally making a great design decision. 🙂

The potted plants on the left are popped up on some foam adhesive. I love the little grass stamps, and used them to help ground my scene. To add a bit of a finishing touch to the card base, I used a small heart from the stamp set and versamark ink to just make a small pattern on the background. And it’s not even a pattern, just random stamps to fill in the blank space, until I felt it was “complete”.
