Take-out Containers

We eat our share of take-out. I wish I could bring my own containers to the restaurant and have them put their food in my own container. That goes against most food safety standards, unfortunately. I know that there is a salad restaurant in NYC where you buy a container, and then you can bring it back for re-use. Very cool.

Anyway, I’ve taken to washing/rinsing the take-out containers from restaurants, in order for them to be recyclable. If they’re made out of a recyclable container, they’ve always been recyclable, but if you don’t rinse the food off, you probably throw it into the regular trash. I know we always have. No longer.

That makes me happy. Recycling more. I wonder if the local recycling center allows field trips. I’d like to see what happens there, would help me learn more of what is and isn’t recyclable. Help me recycle better. I’m going to research that right now.
